Once called "the pearl of the East", Phnom Penh is a bustling business town and the capital of the Kingdom of Cambodia. Its main attractions are the Royal Palace, the National Museum, the infamous Tuol Sleng Khmer Rouge prison and Choeung Ek killing fields. Other attractions are Wat Phnom, the Central market, the Russian market and the lively nightlife around the riverside area. Backpackers have also their ghetto around the shores of BoengKak Lake. Phnom Penh is certainly a place not to miss while you are visiting the region.
